Meredith Stephenson
Parent & Student Coach
Have you ever longed for a safe space to talk about being a parent?
Do you wish you had someone who could guide you on how to help your child with academic and/ or social challenges unique to them?
Have you struggled to find a balance between self-care and care
for your child?
“As a parent I often struggled to find self-compassion in the midst of taking care of my own children, one of whom is neurodivergent.
“As a teacher, educator, and mentor I have worked in both private and public schools in West Los Angeles for 30 years.
About Me
My journey as a mom continues to teach me that I need to shed my agendas and expectations of my children because they more often than not stem from a very limited place/mind-space. When I intentionally work on self- compassion I am able to release my kids from meeting my needs so they can blossom as the unique individuals they are. It is not an easy process but so worth it. It’s what compels me to help other parents to feel supported and seen.”
During this time I saw the immense need for children to have teachers who trust their perception, help them make sense of what they’re noticing, and remind them that their learning styles are not an aspect of themselves to fix or fear, but part of how they learn. I also observed many parents who needed someone to help them navigate the ups and downs of parenthood particularly when their child struggled. Yet there was often a lack of resources and time to be as supportive as I wanted. So I decided to became an academic and social/emotional coach. Today I cultivate a strong partnership with families where parents can receive specific support unique to their situation and their child can develop a stronger sense of self both academically and emotionally.”
What I Offer
Every family is unique, and every one has their own path to success.
For Students…
-
Meet them where they are rather than where the curriculum expects them to be.
-
Teach executive functioning to help them organize their thinking, manage transitions, and move through tasks that feel overwhelming.
-
Support to build long term resilience.
-
Build their own internal toolkit which includes:
Mindfulness practices they can return to when they feel overwhelmed
Small steps to help them access ways of noticing what’s happening inside them, of pausing, of finding their way back.
For Parents & Caregivers…
-
I provide feedback and structure on how to establish loving routines and clear boundaries—not as constraints, but as containers that hold their child.
-
Focus on consistency instead of rigidity which forms a steadiness on which their child can rely.
-
Make sure their child has what they need to access their own capabilities on their own terms.
-
I create a safe, judgment-free environment where students can explore challenges, celebrate victories, and develop strategies that work for them and their family.
I focus on building both academic skills and emotional resilience for my students. Through individualized, innovative, and engaging teaching methods I work to build self-advocacy, self-compassion, and clearer understanding of concepts they find challenging.
I consistently communicate with the child’s school and participate in parent meetings when needed.
-
I stay up to date on the latest research on teaching and parenting strategies as well as actively seek out feedback and support from fellow educators and other child development professionals.
We are all capable of evolving.

“I feel incredibly fortunate that Meredith has been a teacher to both my son and me.”

Testimonials
“As a parent, it can be hard to know sometimes what the ‘best’ choice is. Homeschooling especially can leave you feeling like you need your own PhD in education just to make sure you're doing right by your kids! Meredith has taken away so much of that fear and doubt for me. She has become someone I feel I can genuinely lean on and trust when I'm trying to figure out what's best for my children—not only academically, but as tiny humans who I hope will continue growing into inspired, curious learners who genuinely love and enjoy education.
For any parent looking for a safe harbor — a trusted person to turn to while navigating all the ins and outs of supporting your kids through their education — I can't recommend Meredith enough.
She brings knowledge, reassurance, perspective, and genuine care to the work she does, and I am incredibly grateful to have her in our corner.”
– Meredith Daniel, LCSW and parent
“Meredith has been an invaluable resource to me as a parent navigating an educational system I didn’t grow up with. She has helped me better understand and support my child and taught me how to use school resources to build his confidence.”
– Ling-Fei, parent
“Meredith is one of, if not the best, teachers and tutors I have ever had. She helped me so much, especially when I was preparing for tests like the ISEE. She always finds ways to sneak little learning games into our lessons, which makes learning actually fun. I never thought I would enjoy learning Latin and Greek roots, but she somehow made that happen.
I looked forward to meeting with her every time. I learned a lot from Meredith, but more importantly, she made me actually enjoy learning.”
– Guanyu, student
“Meredith has been a huge asset to my child’s learning and growth. My child has ADHD, anxiety and struggles with focus, emotional regulation, challenging homework and endurance when faced with non-preferred tasks. Meredith goes above and beyond regular tutoring. She has extensive knowledge and experience in teaching children of all grades and learning levels as well as social emotional learning and executive functioning skills. Meredith takes her time getting to know each child and applies teaching tactics that work specifically for them. My child was not looking forward to going to a tutor. For the first few lessons there was kicking and screaming the whole way.
By the third lesson they had a rhythm and she didn’t mind going. Shortly after that she was happy going in and looked forward to it. This told me everything I needed to know. Meredith’s ability to really see each child and meet them where they are enables her to get the most out of each session. My child now walks into an environment where she knows it is safe, calm, and relaxing.
She feels heard and understood and is then ready for learning. They also toss the ball or play (educational) games when attention shifts, which she loves. As a parent, I have been able to learn from her strategies and practice some of them at home. We cannot recommend Meredith enough!”
